"even when all that is done, you'll still only get roughly what you've got now"
Pretty much sums it up.
There's an editor for the navigation bar which we've all been doing with Jake's excellent Navbar Tabs addon.
There's widgets which could be interesting for design, but this is also already in...
+ I like the sound of the page widgets,
+ and the navigation bar editor.
Those are long overdue and good they've arrived.
+ Glad the underlying system has been overhauled to make life easier for devs but see note on documentation below.
~ I want a strong commitment to documentation so...
Style customisations take hours and hours of work - productive work time. Or else I have to pay someone.
Since it's a popular style and 'Classic' is a recognised tradition in design generally, I think a better solution is to have a skin available for admins to add either as default or user...
Thank you Chris for nice courteous reply. I don't think you've just been doing as you please. Clearly there are big improvements under the bonnet in the code. With Documentation on the way for devs this is going to be a big boost moment for XF.
I note however that the feedback threads with the...
Ah I've just seen a post elsewhere that explains various changes are because it suits mobiles. I suppose that's why it's so stripped down, boring and unfriendly.
It seems there is a two class thing going on and if you're not accessing via a mobile you don't matter.
Noticeably a great feeling of relief to return here after being on the demo board for XF2.
Part of that is the comfortable familiarity - which shouldn't be underestimated. Our users too like to feel ah yes this is my familiar place.
But it's also that XF2 is so BARE. Like being in a modern...
Seems there are two areas involved: coding convenience and frontend usefulness or design.
Coding usefulness - not my expertise at all but several good developers have already said to me they are not impressed. They say it's a lot of change to cope with for not very much reward.
Frontend? That...
Very interested in your Articles addon.
Would like to link an article to a forum thread, or a subfirum, like the RM here.
Would also like a feature my wordpress articles addon has. Very useful. The title of the article (unless option disabled) becomes a link word. Everywhere the word /phrase...
Note ... the editor interface on page nodes is a pain - admin/ node tree/ your page node/ Page Options.
Make a template and Include it in the page node. The template editor is quite good.
e.g. Appearances/ Tempate - Create Template bitton top right - I name all my templates with my first name...
I have used the code shown and the width is now controlled.
But the whole forum + sidebar has now shifted to the left. There is some space on the left, but not much.
How to centre it?
I have four key nodes (2 links and 2 node pages) at the top of my node tree, at root (no parent).
They automatically generate a narrow categoryStrip (beige bar).
How can I Hide that bar - but only that one on that page?
So far what I do makes ALL the cat bars disappear!
@NixFifty - thank you for fast well targeted replies. Also thank you for a much needed addon.
> Red alerts and moderator bar alerts are currently bundled.
Does that mean they are in the bundle of the addon? So we get red alerts on new requests?
I tried using this code. The RSS icons were still there - but all my prettifying of categories on the bars disappeared! Wah!
EDIT Found another snippet that worked.
.node .tinyIcon
{
display: none !important;
}
