My forum is mainly for Christians to fellowship in a friendly manner. I want the community to also reach out to non-Christians so we can share our faith and perspectives from Biblical point of view. If you are not a Christian, what would you expect out of a Christian forum. Will really appreciate your suggestions. :)

A good one would simply discuss scripture and try to impart understanding thereof to the readers without trying to get them to join any certain congregation or hit them for donations, if it went further than that or if ministers used the forums to try to recruit members to their churches I think the forums integrity is finished before it gets started.

Thank you Anthony. :)

The manner in which you converse with them, I feel, would be a big deal. Don't look down on them because they are not Christian. Don't ridicule what they currently do/do not believe. Simply provide them information about your beliefs and why you believe what you believe.

Thank you. I agree with that.

Just an observation: In order to join your forum one needs to become a "registered christian".

Yes, it's been like that for some time. Problem was we couldn't keep up with the amount of attack and pornographic threads that used to come up (this was a long time back). So we decided to make it a forum for Christians. But then, we do allow non-Christians who genuinely want to learn and fellowship. It's not easy to moderate a religious forum. :)

We run a forum that is run by christians, but it's firstly a forum for survivors of abuse and we welcome people of any faith. The purpose of our forum isn't to discuss religious things, though we do have an area (well moderated) for that. One thing I would say that is so important is that christians can often come across very judgementally. We have a lot of survivors who were abused in 'religious' settings and so we have to be very sensitive to that. I think sensitivity goes a long way and also accepting people where they are and really understanding where they're coming from. :) Otherwise a lot of damage can be done to people...

Thanks Jo. Would you be able to share the link to the forum so I get can get to see it first hand? What I learnt from the Bible is to love the person not the sin. Also everybody sins including Christians but we are all trying to get rid of it through love, understanding and encouragement. Thank you for the feedback. :)

Very well said, Jo.

I didn't check your forum so this is just a general opinion. I think it's important that you allow total freedom of speech, be sceptical of creationism, acknowledge the importance of science, and try to keep discussion and behavior on a friendly and mature level. I know from experience (Religion & Politics sub-forum) that discussion can turn violent when people with very different views on life and faith are gathered and thus it needs adequate moderation to keep things civil. It's also probably a good idea to separate the sceptic threads from the rest. I think it will improve the atmosphere for your members and make it easier to moderate. But definitely promote openness, honesty and mutual respect. (Respect = not attacking on a personal level).

Well yeah I understand your point, except for the gay rights etc. which I think is a bad analogy here.

i would expect closed-mindedness. i would expect the vast majority of its members to have spent very little time studying the bible, and to have an overly simplistic, uneducated, and unrefined understanding of their own faith. i would expect it to be homophobic and hostile to non-christians. i would expect it to espouse 'hate of the flesh' and to promote self loathing. but above all i would expect a complete lack of critical thinking, and an avoidance to holding ones own faith up to scrutiny.

I would expect that if I weren't a believer. True.
