Template Hooks

I'm too lazy and i have not much free-time, so how are the template hooks working?
Anybody have a clue?
How can i add something? How can i remove something?
Is it possible to manipulate the template(before it gets compiled) with them?

Template hooks are for runtime manipulation of your template output.

OK, so it's just like in vBulletin, but because we have now " a complete block" we can also remove/replace it
