XF 1.2 Rebuild Master Data - What does it do?

When navigating to /install/.
I'd love to know what exactly it does and when it can be of use.

It rebuilds all of the master templates and phrases.

Does the rebuild master data makes loose advertisement system settings ? external account settings ? this kind of settings ?
Or just template modifications, translated phrases ans permissions ?

Neither.

It rebuilds the data for the master style and language (amongst other things).

Translated phrases, customised style properties, and templates won't be affected, if they aren't in the master style/language.

Options, permissions, and other settings also won't be affected.

I did the manipulation and everything went back in order in the ACP without changing my custom modifications in the Public view
