XF 2.1 No pull downs, No template edit

While editing extra.less I eventually locked myself into a state of:

• In admin Pull down menus no longer work.
• Editing templates gives me "You may use XenForo template syntax here."
• Any GUI processing in the admin area that normally would automatically advance from step to step needs to be manually clicked on.

On the forward facing forum everything seems to work fine. My latest css changes work and are just a harmless color change. Nothing that should break anything. I have since dibbled all add-ons to no avail. I have re-install Xenforo from CLI. Changed browsers.

mystery solved.

I had javaScriptUrl and internal/external/Data etc set to different different hosts on different servers. Some CDN some not. Once I went back to default paths and URLs everything just works.
