Kier in his videos he says it like "XenForo" and not "shenforo" - so thats how I know at least I say it.

I thought it was pronounced XenForo?

I notice that the url for forum home has index.php.

I thought the idea was to do away with that, as they have done here.

You lose 'index.php' when you enable full rewrite URLs, as we have done here. You can access any content using the other scheme though, just add index.php? after 'community/'

So out of the box the index.php is there by default and it has to be explicitly "turned off" so to speak.

Is that an ACP setting or something that needs to be done in a config file?

It's an ACP setting, but it requires the mod_rewrite .htaccess file, so it isn't something we'd want to do out of the box.

Yes, but most hosts with apache support this by default.
XenForo comes with .htaccess so it's only a switch in the admin area to turn it on.
