I wasn’t worried about the Corona Virus...

Due to the schools being closed and so many kids only getting their main meal at school, and people being dependent on food banks, etc. I went a different route and started an online fundraiser.

That's a great thing to do.

Our rural school district is sending out school buses with meals for the kids. Anyone 18 or younger can get a meal at the regular bus stop. I thought that was a great way for the school to help out.

How stockpiling toilet paper is going to help those idiots to survive? I had to lineup for about an hour this morning because of those irresponsible creatures. It's not like the end of the word. Maybe they should consider something called a bidet. Even dishwasher soup is out of stock because those idiots are using it to wash their hands as if they just discovered something called self-hygiene. You do not really need to buy that much soap. Plus this is a virus not a bacteria to buy antibacterial handwash. Just put this hydrophobic hydrophilic equation into perspective and all your obsession with handwash will be solved.

My wife taught in this community for many years. The stories of generational poverty are heartbreaking.

Generational poverty in this country is by choice in many cases. We see 2 or 3 generations in this state alone that rely on the welfare system. Its not because they cannot work and provide for themselves. It is because they chose not to. They would rather the tax payers provide for them. This is not saying those that need help shouldn't be assisted; just those too lazy get out of bed and go to work like many.

First of all, why not have supplies set aside? Soap is cheap and often comes in an 8 or 10 pack. Toilet paper can be stocked under normal circumstances in anything from a single roll to multipacks. We have seen it here time after time and crisis after crisis. It snows every year yet people are unprepared. There are smaller issues, bigger issues, yet they all have happened for decades. You are correct though in that it seems people just realized they should wash their hands and maintain hygiene. Who would have though taking care of yourself and keeping clean would be a thing.

The numbers are starting to rise quickly in Illinois. I just read a news article that says Chicago will be the next hot spot comparable to New York. Where are you located in Illinois @Joe Kuhn ? I'm about 20 miles south of Chicago.

The US total is climbing at a bigger daily rate each day.

23 Mar - 10,000 new cases
24 Mar - 11,000
25 Mar - 14,000
26 Mar - 17,000
27 Mar - 19,000

So far today there are 8,500 new cases and the running total is 112,500.

South Korea had it's first case middle of February, the same as the US.

The difference is striking though.

Saw a vid from an LA based you tuber and they awoke with symptoms in LA on the 19th February, so probably safe to say they caught it in the states 7-14 days prior to that.

He saw two doctors because it was so bad and they both told him it categorically wasn’t Covid-19 (obviously didn’t have any tests due to unavailability).

He then recovered, socialised a lot and on 10th March flew to South Africa and passed temperature screenings when entering the country. Proceeded to go to his bachelor, music festival and get married, then read about corona patients losing sense of taste and smell. So got properly tested and came back positive as one of the first cases in SA.

I bet the us cases are so much higher, just under reported due to lack of testing.

Without a doubt.

Our daughter had a fever of 40C / 104F almost 3 weeks ago.

We called the COVID-19 hotline for our area and described the symptoms and were told that there was little they could do as there were no test kits available.
If she got any worse we had to call our primary care provider and obtain instructions from them as to what to do next.

Luckily she recovered but she was quite ill for about 2 weeks and still has a cough.

Was it COVID-19?
Who knows.

When the self testings kits come out, could be worth ordering one of the ones that detect for antibodies as it should tell you if she had it.

I read on the BBC a few days ago they were talking about £6 kits being able to order from Amazon soon.

Looking at your graph above: Hopefully not.
That time the disease wasn't widely spread and no one else in the family caught it from her.

Here in australia we have had idiots go to the beach when we are not meant to be in large gatherings. Maximum is now 2 people.
large families will have a hard time when they are out.
