following and followed...how does it work?

Hi,
let me just say that yesterday I installed xf and now i'm fallen in love with it

I'm just wondering what is the "utility" (please correct me if the word is not correct ) of the "following/followed" system. On my board I got no alerts when a person that I follow posts something on its profile. Did I miss something?

When you follow someone, their activity is added to the "Your News Feed" stream:
http://xenforo.com/community/account/news-feed

So it's a filtered version of the Recent Activity page, for just the members you follow:
http://xenforo.com/community/recent-activity/

You can also restrict who can view your profile, post on your profile page, receive your news feed, start conversations with you and view your identities to "People You Follow Only":
http://xenforo.com/community/account/privacy

There isn't an alert for someone you follow updating their status, that would appear in "Your News Feed".
