In most forums yes. That's true.
But what if the users are making money from the links? So when the links are removed they need an easy way to know it's broken and easy way replace the links.
I've made money on other forums for years by making files downloadable:

Most forums don't have a way to know if the links are broken, So you will never know. If i knew it was broken. I could easily replace it and then i would be making more money.
I don't really know what a 404 is... i just know it's a dead link and needs replacing

I may be interested in your nice addon. It seems to work but there may be a bug in part of the back end. In the demo the number of 404 errors listed in the list area is 1 - https://xenmade.com/admin.php?dlm/url-list But when you look on the page with the errors and also in the dropdown alert, there are 2 404 errors on the page, so the count is off. Doing a recount didn't correct the number. This is a small and minor issue that shouldn't interfere with this nice plugin and just figured you want to know.

I also had a problems when there was a post with multiple 404's, when I selected those to replace them with DLMURL's It only fixes one of them and the rest is still in the list. When I do that again another one is replaced. but never all of them.
Can someone try this and confirm?
And of course still waiting for the "Replace link with new link" feature that has been suggested is this thread.

I really miss this function and have been waiting to run this because I have a lot of links like example.com/home.html and when you remove the home.html they are working again.
Also I'm having some problems using the frontend
When I try to replace links with DMLURL sometimes I get

Another problem I noticed is that sometimes when you want to remove multiple links from the same post (using the frontend) It only removes 1 link. If you select all the link again it removes again one link? I'ts not always... Sometimes it removes all of them or more than one.
But this happens a lot. And then I have to select the links 20 times and do it again and again...
And a few suggestions.
In the Backend I'm missing checkboxes to select multiple links (just like you can do with the frontend)
Another good thing would be if you could be redirected to the exact url list page again after removing a link so you could go on with the next link.
something like
admin.php?dlm/url-list/404/detail
At the moment it redirects to admin.php?tools/rebuild&success=1
This is really annoying.

Also I would set the data writer option to not change the edit date, and to not log the edit. Or make it an option.

This is because there are more than 20 images in that old post that has to be edited and at the moment I only allow 20 images in a post. So it's not possible to save the post and you get that error.

Agreed. An update would be nice. This add-on doesn't work on big boards at the moment.

I delete files and un-installed add-on,
I upload again files and install add-on again, and now "like" button is fast
But for 2 days(48 hours) i am still scanning links,
After i reach past 200,000 , sometimes "like" button is slow, now is fast again,
30 days until finish scanning...
I think scan needs to be faster, I cannot test because i cannot finish scan,
I will try to leave it scan for 30 days.

After 5 days i made it up to 500,000
Once you get past 300,000 thats when more problems arise.
You are on this screen,
After 2 or 3 minutes you get the 524 screen.
And you have to refresh and continue scanning, So it's really hard to finish scanning, At this rate it will be over 30 days, If you can even make it that high,
The higher you get, the more problems arise,
This add-on works on small boards thats why you haven't seen anyone else have problems, because they've used it on small board but
