Didn't find it suggested already, so I'm throwing it in here. You know many many people use it.

To those who doesn't know what it is, it's a box on the forum home page where people can chat.

Edit: yes I know it can be a mod yayaya, it's just a hard one to code properly.

I voted no because it takes the posting activity away. Good idea for plugin.

Only if it was integrated really well, I like the way ipb chat is setup.

    A normal shoutbox? no.

I'm not that familiar with IPB - can you explain how it's chatbox is set up? :)

You may need to be a member over there (free), and screen shots really would not do the system justice, you actually need to use it to see how elegant it is.

So it's just like an integrated IRC chat? :)

I am over there now. And it appears you just left the room.

    Yes, of course :)

I vote yes, but should be a plugin not a feature in xF.

IRC yes, chatbox, no. A chatbox just draws away from a user posting on your board, making conversation with others that can be viewed indefinitely, as opposed to a chatbox, which people would normally clear to keep loadtime on the board down.

Only if it's an add-on.I would not want this for a core feature.

Agree, I don't know any forum software that has it as a core feature anyway.

Whilst a chatbox is normally used in other forums, I actually think this specific design doesn't require it, as quite honestly the posting is a live environment with instantaneous data shown. What you used to replicate with a chatbox, this software tends to me a more live chat environment than seen in any prior forum software. Not sure it even has a use in this software to be perfectly honest.

All you need is for new posts to load directly underneath your own post, and the entire forum is a chatbox in essence.

I don't use one but do code one for vB ;) (MGC)

No chatbox. No shoutbox. Best left as add-on's and such.

I used to think that, from a traffic perspective it would be great. As long as people can see activity whether it be chatting or posting is all good :)

I think it's best suitable for addon :)

Chat is very heavily used on my site, mainly for races so we can chat in real time.

I've already made the request last week.

If it's not standard then I will need another solution.
My members would not be happy without having chat functionality.

As an add-on. And I might use it in my forum.
