XF 2.2 Can you help me please with a gallery question?

I am hoping that one of you very helpful and knowledgeable members can help me out with this with a small piece of code. As per the image below I am wanting to put a very pale grey overlay over the information blocks (not sure of their correct name). I THINK this would be an overlay in the item list area, but as I know practically zero about codes I can't work it out. The image below is just a Photoshop mock set up that I did to show what I'm talking about. I would be happy to pay for this piece of code.

Any help on this would so very much appreciated. Thank you.

Just one more thing. Is it possible to change the link colour in these boxes? I would prefer all black text here. As you can see it's a green/aqua colour. I don't want to change that link colour for the whole site, just here in the gallery (as in above image). Once again, thank you so much. For someone like me who knows virtually nothing about coding your help is invaluable!
