[bd] Push Notification [Deleted]

@overifist I was having the same problem... You need to make sure the redirect_uri matches the directory of your Xenforo install and then put "/register/pushbullet" behind it..

So check in ACP-->Basic Board Information--> Board URL then put that url into your Pushbullet client info as the "redirect_uri" with /register/pushbullet trailing it.

yourdomain.com/register/pushbullet (if "Board URL" = yourdomain.com)

yourdomain.com/forums/register/pushbullet (if "Board URL" = yourdomain.com/forums)

Etc...

Took me a little bit to figure it out as well. But that should get you fixed up.

Yea I actually figured this out earlier. But thanks tho!

Is there a way to change the text in the message?

For example, this is how I want it to be:

Forum Title
Message here (EX: User tagged you in thread) (no url)
(click to go to page)

can someone tell me the proper code here

Code:
<xen:if is="{$user.ACCOUNT LINKED TO PUSHBULLET}">
<a><img src="vault/icons/pb.png"></a>
</xen:if>

Anyone using this for Pushbullet?

Anyone used both this and Chris' version and know if either has the edge over the other? In terms of setup and actual every day use?

Ideally I'd like a push platform where the site bears the costs (if there are any), lowering the barrier to entry to getting the notifications on users phone.

Pushover is currently £4 in the appstore, which is very pretty expensive depending on the user.

They have desktop notifications too - but that's another $5 per user! No way users are going to pay that when there's so many other sites offering free push notifications these days.

i tried both, and it comes down that users do not want to pay $4 so i switched to bd

There's no real alterantive. We did a poll and not a single member responded that they'd pay just to receive notifications.... (200+ votes).

We went with Pushbullet, and even though it's a bit limited with regard to configuration possibilities, it does the job...

It should be noted though that few are actually using Pushbullet, besides the hardcore members. Just a handful on our forum (55k members).

yeah both options are bad since push over is much better but requires payment

Members don't want to run a third party service/register for something just to receive notifications. A native app is the solution, and Slavik seems to be doing a great job with his app. Go with that instead :)

Pushbullet will do though, while waiting...

yea apps seems to be the best solution, i went with vbresults app and most of our users really use it only for the notifications lol

it does the job tho so i am not complaining

Yeah, I imagine the configuration is a massive barrier for many users.

I'm thinking that a YouTube screencast on how to set it up, and linking to that in the new user welcome message is probably necessary to up the installs.

So may users don't want to get spammed with thread notification emails anymore, but are happy to get something like a phone notification that they can action in the moment, or ignore forever and it won't clutter their inbox with that contain 'real messages'.

I tried the vb results app on some forums, and you lose native browser functionality like swiping backwards to go back a page, really silly UI annoyances, it's just not the same.

As much as I love the idea of fully native apps, you potentially lose so much with them too. If you have anything more than the vanilla forum experience, you're going to be missing out.

Got an events system? Can't use that in the app.
Got a gallery? Can't use that in the app.
Got post ratings installed? Can't use that in the app.

Until some killer app comes out that is extendible to allow all that, we need decent push integration to get people back on the mobile sites where they can do everything. Pushover seems perfect, it's just so bloody expensive and it passes that cost onto the user.

It would be great if the admins could bulk buy licences for cheap to gift to their users or include as a part of account upgrades.

I guess I'll have a look at Pushbullet and the vbresults app again.

Slavik did say that they will be working on integrating third party add-on support later down the road. The gallery will probably be up next, as soon as the iOS and Android versions reach gold status. It will of course still be limited to a few select "add-ons", but should cover the most important aspects of most forums.

Users are on mobile today. Users want native apps/best possible user experience, with push notifications. No way around that I'm afraid, no matter what we forum owners wish or think.

I agree, as long as the native app experience isn't handicapped considerably compared to the browser experience. I used to be a huge fan of tapatalk back in the day. Back when mobile browsers were far less advanced than they are now, forums didn't have as much advanced functionality and screen were smaller.

I do still love the native app experience, but phone's are now more powerful, screens are larger, mobile browsers are incredibly capable. The responsive experience is catching up with native apps, it still got a ways to go. But if the native app starts to lose ground in terms of functionality offering only a watered down interaction with your site, and the one of the two main advantages of a native app (push notifications and native feel to the ui) can't be sourced elsewhere then it starts to become less appealing.

Depends on the site I guess, your demographic and how much you tinker. If you start adding more advanced functionality to your site, you then need to wait months or years for the app to catch up. If your push notifications are sending users straight to the latest responsive version then that new functionality is available to every user immediately.

thats the reason i went with vbresults and designed a custom theme just for the app, it kept every mod i have with a look that looked like a native app

sadly the theme is now disabled since for some reason it gives errors when you access threads after i installed php 7

something to do with userhelper

This quit working for some reason

An error occurred while connecting with Pushbullet. Please try again later.
