XF 2.1 Sub-forums display style per node

Thanks for bringing this up. In many cases, not all, I would like the Forums underneath a category to only populate when the Category is clicked. This keeps the front page uncluttered. Right now, I am only accomplishing this by making a Traffic Cop forum, and placing the other forums as...

XF 2.1 plan B when the migration redirections flop - special landing page

The emphasis has changed to having Google crawl the new site using the site map, which is supposed to take from four days to four weeks. Robots.txt is probably correct from Xenforo. It was easy to have Google verify the new site and to submit the Xenforo site map. If I do some extra stuff...

is XenForo good to buy ?

Incidentally, the informality and friendliness and skill-level on this forum was a factor in making the switch. As soon as I explained my situation, I got solid offers of assistance, and also professional references also that I could check out. On a "new buy" level, overall, there really is...

XF 2.1 plan B when the migration redirections flop - special landing page

Yes, I join the discussion of that add-on on p. 11: https://xenforo.com/community/threads/xenforo-redirects-for-vbulletin.142137/page-11 The add-on is not supported, and when I tried to use it, it did not work. Thus, I am looking for a Plan B.

is XenForo good to buy ?

For me the impetus to move to Xenforo was annoying quirks in my vBulletin 4.2 that would at times looks a thread to simply a white page. And my forum is basically simple, text, and pics, low volume, more like a research spot. This might have occurred on threads that have 5++ pictures...

XF 2.1 plan B when the migration redirections flop - special landing page

Redirection problems often occur after migrations. The vBulletin redirection add-on is no longer supported, this was a change made fairly recently. And there does not seem to be any straightforward trouble-shooting tech way to try to resolve the problem, even if the import table looks to have...

    XenForo Redirects for vBulletin

Thanks. Ok, I have an inquiry in as to how that is handled. It would be nice to know exactly where the file name is placed, is it something you can (incorrectly) leave blank, and what the screen looks like. If that can be improved, I may redo the import, after a redo of the DNS. (Basically, no...

    XenForo Redirects for vBulletin

Another help would be to trap the Google no-find searches and redirects that go to: ============================================== Not Found The requested URL /showthread.php was not found on this server. Apache/2.4.25 (Debian) Server at www.purebibleforum.com Port 443...

    XenForo Redirects for vBulletin

Here are some questions. :) Help on #s (1) and (3) would be especially appreciatedd. ================ 1) What table do the redirections end up using in Xenforo?, I would assume it is not the import log file with vbulletin in the name, so where are the actual redirection tables...

    XenForo Redirects for vBulletin

Anyone who thinks they have a sense of this redirection thing, holla. Maybe the MYSQL file can be viewed (Navicat, CSV, etc.). Wonder if there is a way to do manual redirection? Working off a printout and using cut-and-paste. (This would be the resulting table inside Xenforo.) Figuring this...

    XenForo Redirects for vBulletin

Nah, none forwarded. The only one that worked was one where Google was showing the ip number, rather than the url name. Do I have any plan B? It was curious that there was no confirmation or time delay. Presumably Google might catch up over time. Plus I can use, and maybe enhance by...

    XenForo Redirects for vBulletin

Hi, After the Redirection Add-on is placed in its new home: I am trying to do vBulletin import log table: Where two file choices are offered. xp_post_backup import_log_vbulletin4_1 The first one is not an import table, I am told The second one allows me to hit "Save" but nothing visible...

    this forum - conversation threads - 10-minute edit-lock limit

No pressing case. My particular use was simply very informal analysis, and often you go back and add urls and other information after the first pass.

    XenForo Redirects for vBulletin

Thanks, that simplifies the question. We don't have to worry about "catching" any information earlier.

    XenForo Redirects for vBulletin

My vBulletin 4.x www.purebibleforum.com is coming over to a new Xenforo 2.x Full forum overwrite, can be done multiple times in test mode. What is the timing for the add-on to be used? If we do the migration to an IP addy on another server, and then backup and delete the original vBulletin...

    this forum - conversation threads - 10-minute edit-lock limit

Thanks. It would be good to ask XF to increase: Conversation Permissions "Time limit on editing own messages (minutes)" Since that is informal, and does not really have the problem of a person perhaps changing a post after a response. Usually if you are in a private conversation, you would...

    this forum - conversation threads - 10-minute edit-lock limit

This seems especially quick for the conversation area. Even for the forum area, it seems quick, there, however, it is understandable. (Assuming it is the same.) Can the conversation be given a longer EDIT time limit? (I am just starting out with Xenforo, however I am getting help in the...

VPS with good support, modest price

Forum is imported. Just plan to check out the temporary DNS, then make the full switch. Probably a day or two more of poking around. Wonderful experience. Will report back when it is public up and running.

Upgrading from Vbulletin V4.2.3 to XenForo

Yes, even with my small research forum, the occasional serious glitch like a white page replacing a thread really hurt my vBulletin confidence. No avatars in mine, afaik, if there are from posters they can be gone. Most of the forum is my research. So looking forward to Xenforo. This should...

VPS with good support, modest price

Thanks for all the support and communication. For now, I have received excellent help from one of our forum members (thanks!) on bringing it over to an unmanaged small VPS Linode. Other projects planned in the future, AndI will report back when the forum is imported, and up and running.
