Great one but didn't work for me either. Applied this but still get 10's messages with their subject/title link starting with http:// sigh...

I need to update this.
This is a great tutorial! I used this in my forum and can say it works and is effective. Thank you for the help.
Didn't work for me. It seems if you have settings that place the first 'x' amount of posts from a member into the moderation queue, then the spam phrases feature becomes void.

One or the other works fine I suppose, I'd prefer to not have new users posts moderated unless the team can get to it quickly.
Great guide which shows in easy steps how to limit the amount of spam showing on your website. Thank you to the author for providing a free solution.
The tips for adding the quick reply banner really made this much more palatable on my forum. Users barely grumbled about it. Thanks for the nice write up!
Extremely useful tutorial, especially the bit on adding the code above the quick reply area. This has definitely helped reduce spam on my site, so thank you!

Hey, thanks! I actually need to update this as some spam does now get through since 1.5. Check back for that.
A very useful tutorial, thanks a lot! I use this now in my forum.
Since I added this to my forum I never see a spampost or advertising stuff, its great! <3

Good to hear!
Although i have added a lot of the available spam thingies i still like the direct approach. It is easy to read and add to the forum, while the rules are clear.
Thanks!

It sure is effective, too!
This also has the added benefit of stopping those people who join your forum to post "helpful links" that happen to point to their own sites. I'd recommend you consider adding https://* to the filer as well. I only rated it good because you can also do this with user promotions. Just add new users to a group that can't post links until they hit x amount of posts then promote them to full members.

I've yet to see any spam messages using https, but that's a good suggestion.
I prefer this way to groups because you don't have to wait for the cron to update members, and blocking links via group doesn't affect anything other than posts (I think).
