Have you seen...?

This forum spotlights some of XenForo's interesting features. Spotlights on features in upcoming releases will be posted here.
When we debuted the Pages feature, it was intended to be a simple way to get some custom HTML onto a page surrounded by the standard XenForo user interface chrome. By the time we reached Beta 1, it had evolved into an altogether more powerful system. Pages now support a PHP callback, so your pages can request data from the database and be used as a platform for building any kind of single-page application you might want to build. They also allow you to override the default and specify your own template to be rendered by the page, so the possibilities really are limitless. This two-part video shows you the basics of building a simple application using the Pages system, and delves into the realms of the template editor to create and...
When it comes to quickly and easily toggling the display or behaviour of user interface elements, it often makes sense to be able to pass simple parameters to the templates. XenForo provides a powerful and extensible system to allow variables to be defined and modified on a per-style basis, making this a breeze and opening the door for style customization by third-party add-ons. Semantic HTML
From the outset, XenForo has been built with semantic HTML in mind in order to facilitate styling, boost SEO and give a helping hand to screen reading software. The W3C provides a useful Semantic data extraction tool that allows the efficacy of this approach to be tested. Take a look at how easily the tool extracts the important content from an example thread here on XenForo.com: Semantic Data Extraction for 'Multi-page Navigation Enhancement' thread
In a previous video, we looked at various style property options and also touched briefly on the XenForo color palette. The color palette is an integral part of the style property system, and so it is open and extensible, allowing interaction and extension through the add-on system. This video shows an add-on defining a new color and adding it to the global palette, and then shows a few of the tools XenForo provides for quickly and easily manipulating the palette, so that administrators can create the basis for new styles in seconds. Today, we have a video showing upcoming improvements to the XenForo help system, and a new way to surface profile posts. View on Vimeo My apologies for the sound quality, I'm hoping that some new audio gear will be arriving before I record the next one of these. Just a reminder: Please do not post suggestions in this thread (even if you feel they are related). Use the dedicated suggestion forum so they can be tracked; suggestions made in this thread are unlikely to be implemented.
You've already seen how style properties provide a quick, easy, flexible and extensible way to control the appearance and behaviour of your styles. In this video, you'll see them at work again, this time working directly on element appearance and styling. The demo touches on our use of the color palette (which is of course extensible in its own right) and shows some basic use of our CSS editor. Enjoy! As usual, this is a large, HD video. View it at full size using the expand gadget in the bottom right of the movie frame.
Floris has been kind enough to produce a video showing our page navigation system in action, so I will just link to his video and you can see it for yourself: A few things to note: When the page loads, the only page links that are in the HTML are the ones that are visible. The links that appear when you scroll the gadget are generated with Javascript, so they don't suck up resources when they are not required. This system is most useful for navigating 50ish pages. For a greater span of pages, we will be putting in a 'jump to page' function shortly. Edit: September 12th 2010 - You can now go nuts with these things in the PageNav Playground!
XenForo 1.4 includes a complete and extensible implementation of the Sitemap XML standard, allowing for optimised indexing of your site by search engines. for like SEO and stuff... Watch on Vimeo As always, please don't post suggestions in this thread, but rather use the appropriate suggestions forum.
Two-Step Verification and Security Improvements
Account security has become a hot topic recently. There are seemingly endless stories about password databases from popular sites being leaked. Because password reuse is common, we've started to see brute force login attempts using these leaked passwords. Maintaining account security has become a big priority. To help this, we've added a few new features. Two-Step Verification Two-step verification, also known as two-factor authentication, requires you to provide two pieces of information to login. The general form is expressed as "something you know and something you have". "Something you know" is your password. "Something you have" is the new part. You may have seen this with other services, such as Google accounts. If you're...
Welcome to XenForo 1.4 / More Assorted Improvements
Welcome to XenForo 1.4. As we are nearing a beta release, it's now time to upgrade XenForo.com and put the new code through its paces. Once we're happy with the state of it, an unsupported beta version will be made available to all customers with active licenses. However, there are still some other improvements to discuss in 1.4. Over time, you may see tweaks that haven't been explicitly called out or adjustments to features that have been shown in previous Have You Seen's. Forum option: moderate new threads and replies separately Previously, forums could only be set to moderate all posts or none. This option has now been split to give you the option to control moderation of new threads and new replies separately: As before, users...
